Abstract: Based on a general description of different kinds of luminescent rare earth materials, this paper introduces the corresponding luminescent mechanism and overviews the applications of luminescent rare earth materials in the fields ranging from display and illumination, inorganic ions determination, life analysis to mineral analysis. Future developments and improvements of rare earth materials research are predicted.
