Abstract: Metal industry underpins the economy of Jiangxi province which is undergoing economic transformation. It is of great significance to accelerate the transformation and upgrading of metal industry to drive the development of the provincial economy. In this paper, by means of input-output analysis, the industrial correlation coefficient between producer service industry and metal industry were calculated. The results showed that metal industry in Jiangxi faced challenges like backward high-end manufacturing, little investment in technology and an unreasonable structure. Such being the case, to advance the transformation and upgrading of metal industry, further support should be given to science and technology service industry as it plays an essential role in bolstering high-end manufacturing. Besides, as metal industry is closely connected with circulation service industry, it deserves to be developed vigorously so as to improve the efficiency of resource circulation. At the same time, with the help of the developed circulation service industry, strategies like "going global" and "bringing in" should be implemented in order to introduce high-end technologies from developed provinces, and to improve the production efficiency of metal industry.
