Abstract:
Six aluminum cathode materials with different compositions were prepared by adding boron and rare earth elements to the commercial pure aluminum melts in the process of smelting and casting. The corrosion property of the test materials was investigated by using soaking and electrochemical experiments. The results show that boron and rare earth elements can effectively reduce the content of iron impurity and transform them from β-Fe to fined-grain morphology. The results of thermostatic water bath soaking and electrochemical experiments illustrate that the corrosion property of aluminum cathode plates improves by adding boron and rare earth elements. As a result, adding both boron and rare earth elements to the aluminum cathode plate can obtain the best corrosion property.
