Abstract:
Golden section forged ball as a new type of grinding medium is designed in order to overcome the problem of inadequate grinding coarse particles and overly grinding fine particles in the former grinding process. Grinding experiments with two grinding mediums, cylindrical ball and steel ball, show that forged ball milling has favorable grinding results, coarse particle size and fine particle size dropping by 0.80 % and 2.46 % respectively, while medium size increasing by 3.26 %. In the grinding process by forged ball, line contact exists between the forged ball and milled ore, which reduces the overly grinding due to coarse particles' bridging effect. However, the bridging effect of coarse particles by steel ball is not observed for the dot contact between steel ball medium and grinded ore. Thus, the milling process by steel ball has unfavorable particle selection. The grinding medium by the golden section forged ball can solve the technical difficulties of inadequate grinding coarse particles overly grinding fine particles.
