Abstract:
The energy is an important material basis for economic development and people's living. While the excessive consumption of fossil fuels has accelerated the energy crisis and environmental pollution. The utilization of new energy is the inevitable choice of solving the energy and environmental problems. The new energy power generation such as solar, wind and tidal energy is intermittent. Thus it has brought great challenges to the safe and stable operation of power grids. The technology of energy storage is the key one in the development of new energy. In all kinds of energy storage technology, people have paid more and more attention to electrochemical energy storage. The redox flow battery is a large-scale and highly efficient energy storage system. It is known that the zinc-cerium redox flow battery is the aqueous electrolyte battery which has the highest single cell voltage. In this paper, the working principle of zinc-cerium redox flow battery has been described. The current researching development has been reviewed from three aspects such as reactions of the positive and negative half cells, as well as the membrane. The basic problems in zinc-cerium redox flow battery that need to be focused on have been pointed out.
