A research on the characteristics of rock damage development under uniaxial compression

  • The characteristics of rock damage development under uniaxial compression was observed by using microscope and double-exposure holographic interferometry. The relationship between metamorphic rock deformation and its damage growth is presented. Factually rock damage means the domain of microcrack growth (DMG) and the process from the initiation to growth of microcrack in rock. The fractal properties are affected by the constitution and original defects in rock. The degree of rock damage and nonlinear deformation are related to the propagation and coalescence of cracks. The mechanics of rock fracture is chiefly tensional loss as well as part of shear fracture.
