Cause analysis of H85 brass punctate peeling and its countermeasures

The cause of peeling on H85 brass strip and sheet was analyzed by SEM and EDS. The result shows that during the melt casting, Al element in furnace lining, which gets into the melt, reacts with O element into foreign bodies different from the matrix, resulting in the lattice deformation of the matrix. The interaction of elastic stress field and motion dislocation makes the surface material of H85 brass wracked and shed, leading to macroscopic defects such as punctate peeling.
