Research status and new method of recovering iron from copper slag

  • The difficulties of recovering iron from copper slag are pointed out by the XRD, SEM, EDS and analysing chemical composition of copper slag. The main technological methods and defects of recovering iron from copper slag at home and abroad are summarized. A new method for recovering iron from copper slag by weak oxidation roasting and magnetic separation is proposed. The mixture ratio of copper slag and CaO is 100:25, the gas flow rate of CO2 and CO is 180 mL/min and 20 mL/min respectively, the roasting temperature is 1050 ℃, and roasting for 2 hours. The iron concentrate can be separated by magnetic field magnetic separation of 170 mT and crushed to -0.074 mm. The final iron concentrate with 54.79 % iron grade and tailing with 22.12 % iron content were obtained. The recovery rate of iron was 80.14 %, which basically realized the recovery of iron from copper slag.
