Density of molten salt system for flow line magnesium electrolysis

  • The molten salt density of the flow line magnesium electrolysis was studied by Archimedes method to determine the optimal parameters. The results show that molten salt density increases with the rising concentration of MgCl2 in MgCl2-KCl-NaCl system. However, molten salt density decreases with the increasing concentration of KCl. With the increase of NaCl concentration, the molten salt density of high KCl contents increases, while that of high MgCl2 content decreases. The density of molten salt increases sharply when KMgCl3 occurs in the system. The optimal range of component in the production are listed: WKCl: WKCl: 50 %~70 %, WNaCl: 18 %~23 %, WMgCl2: 12 %~18 %; temperature: 680~700 ℃.
