Study on the static mechanical behavior of tungsten skeleton /Zr based amorphous alloy composite material

  • Tungsten skeleton/Zr-based amorphous composites were fabricated by melt infiltrating casting method. The samples are 6mm in diameter with the tungsten skeleton are 40% in volume fraction. They were tested by electronic universal testing machine at room temperature. The experimental results show that the static yield strength doesn't has strain rate effect, the vaule basically maintain unchanged. The composites has good plastic elongation as well as strain strengthening effect. The original structure and fracture characteristics as well as crack propagation etc were examined using scanning electron microscopy. The results show that the composites has complex fracture mode and some cracks appears on the junction of the deformation bands. The propagation of crack in tungsten skeleton is blocked by amorphous and the tungsten skeleton restricts the flow of amorphous.
