Technology of converter blowing and using limestone for slagging

  • In order to establish the new technology system of low cost, high efficiency and stable characteristics for producing clean steel, technology of converter blowing and using limestone for slagging was researched. Decomposition characteristics of limestone and feasibility of using limestone instead of lime for slagging were analyzed. Experiments were conducted. It is found that adding limestone directly into converter to replace the traditional "burnt lime -slagging and steelmaking" can reduce more than 50 % of the amount of burnt lime, based on that the amount of the burnt lime ranges from 40 to 50 kg of per ton of steel. The technology of using CO2 instead of N2 for converter slag splashing and bottom blowing CO2 for stirring and smelting will achieve good results.
