Preparation of pure Al-Zr master alloy from Al reducing ZrO2 dissolved in molten salt

  • Al-Zr master alloy is prepared by the new method of Al reducing ZrO2 dissolved in molten salt and the effect of reduction time on Zr content in the Al-Zr master alloys is studied. The results showed that purer alloy can be gained because the Al-Zr master alloy prepared by the new method of Al reducing ZrO2 dissolved in molten salt does not contain zirconia and alumina inclusion. The alloy samples analyzed by SEM and EEP show that the Zr of Al-Zr master alloy exists mainly in form of Al3Zr crystal whisker.
